Dr. Agathe Scappini is a French and English-speaking clinical psychologist in Milan. She receives patients in person in Milan and works online with people living elsewhere in Italy and abroad, in French, English and Italian, with adolescents from 16, adults, couples and parents.
She holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Psychology obtained with honours and is completing a PhD on a question that says something about how she works: how responsive therapists actually are to the individual needs of the person in front of them. It is the opposite of assuming the method is the thing that matters.
She is training in Relational Psychoanalysis and works in a client-centred way, and has completed a postgraduate specialisation in typical and atypical sexuality.
Her practice covers couples: conflict, communication, and how a relationship changes over time, including its crises and transitions. Alongside that she works with intimacy and sexuality, typical and atypical, an area many people never raise with a therapist because they assume it will be awkward.
She also supports motherhood and parenthood at every stage, including pregnancy and the postpartum period. For a woman going through that in a country that is not her own, far from her mother and her friends, and in a health system whose language she is still learning, having someone who works in her own language is not a comfort but a necessity.
She works with anxiety, burnout, mood difficulties, psychosomatic symptoms and relational difficulties.
She has clinical experience with expats and migrants in Italy and in the Netherlands, and has run school projects in psychological and sexual education for young people. She knows Turkish culture well and speaks Turkish at B2 level, and is at ease with Middle Eastern contexts and with patients of Muslim faith, which in Italy is a rare combination.
You do not have to pick her yourself. At Therapsy every person is matched by a human being, not by an algorithm: our clinical team reads your request, and if Dr. Scappini is the right fit for what you are bringing, they will introduce you. The first call is free, and it is there to check that the fit is real before anything begins.
Fewer than 1 in 100 therapists joins the Therapsy team. Dr. Scappini was personally vetted by our Clinical Director, Dr. Francesca A. Boccalari, on three non-negotiable criteria: she shares our values, she speaks at least one language beyond Italian, and she has a physical practice in Milan where you can meet in person, not only online.
Agathe Scappini does not work alone. She takes part in Therapsy’s internal clinical supervision, a standing group where therapists bring their most demanding cases, train together and ask for help when a situation calls for it. Every therapist in the network, Case Managers included, can turn to our Clinical Director for clinical questions and further training, and Therapsy runs regular professional training with senior therapists and external trainers. Scheduling, invoicing, payments and the rest of the paperwork are handled by Therapsy, so that her time with you stays clinical work and nothing else. On your side, the same platform gives you one place to see your sessions, invoices, payments and documents.
At Therapsy you do not have to pick your therapist from a list: you start by speaking with Dr. Francesca Boccalari, our Clinical Director, who listens to what you are going through and matches you with the therapist she believes is right for you: Agathe Scappini, or one of her colleagues. Then you have a free introductory call with that therapist, and only after that do you decide whether to start.
And if the fit turns out not to be right, you are not back at square one. Dr. Boccalari and her team find you another therapist inside Therapsy, at no cost, without you having to tell your story from the beginning. Choosing a therapist while you are struggling, in a language that is not your own, is a lot to ask of a person. That is the part we take on.
Dr. Scappini is registered with the Italian Order of Psychologists. She receives in Milan and works online with patients across Italy and abroad.
In Milan in person, online everywhere else. The format is not settled once at the start: like anything else in the therapy, it gets revisited when circumstances change.
Yes, and with specific training behind it rather than as a topic that occasionally comes up. Her postgraduate specialisation covers both typical and atypical sexuality, and she has run group work on the subject. Sexual difficulty is frequently the last thing named in a therapy, and often the one that explains the rest.
Yes, in two countries: Italy and the Netherlands. Having been the foreigner herself is not a credential, but it does mean the practical grind of relocation, bureaucracy, language and the slow rebuilding of a social life is understood rather than explained from scratch each session.
Relational psychoanalysis, practised in a client-centred way. The relational part means what happens between the two of you in the room is treated as evidence rather than as background, which tends to matter for people whose difficulties show up mainly in relationships.
