Dr. Ivano Calaon is an English-speaking psychotherapist in Turin with over ten years of practice. He receives patients in person in Turin and works online with people living elsewhere in Italy and abroad, in English and Italian, with individuals, couples and families.
He holds a degree in Psychology from the University of Turin and specialised in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy at SPC in Genoa. His approach is human-centred: the interest is in the person behind the symptom, in building resilience through loss, and in the deeper emotional layers that drive behaviour when the surface explanation does not hold.
He works with adults, adolescents and couples facing depression, anxiety and relationship difficulties, and is particularly experienced in couples therapy and family counselling, helping families improve how they communicate and build dynamics that actually hold.
He supports parents through complicated situations, including conflictual separations. Separation with children in the middle is its own clinical problem, distinct from the end of the relationship itself, and it is one of the places where a therapist who works with the whole family makes a visible difference.
He has specialised knowledge in sleep psychology and works with parents of newborns on sleep. It is a narrow specialism and a common crisis: the first months with a baby dismantle sleep for both parents, and the exhaustion that follows is usually treated as something to endure rather than something with an evidence base behind it.
He also has substantial experience in work psychology across different organisations, with interventions on motivation, stress management, work-life balance, soft skills, coaching and career counselling, for individuals and for teams.
He worked for a year in India and has long experience with Indian patients, alongside good knowledge of Brazilian, French and Polish contexts. For a patient from any of those backgrounds, it removes the part of therapy usually spent explaining where you come from.
You do not have to pick him yourself. At Therapsy every person is matched by a human being, not by an algorithm: our clinical team reads your request, and if Dr. Calaon is the right fit for what you are bringing, they will introduce you. The first call is free, and it is there to check that the fit is real before anything begins.
Fewer than 1 in 100 therapists joins the Therapsy team. Dr. Calaon was personally vetted by our Clinical Director, Dr. Francesca A. Boccalari, on three non-negotiable criteria: he shares our values, he speaks at least one language beyond Italian, and he has a physical practice in Turin where you can meet in person, not only online.
Ivano Calaon does not work alone. He takes part in Therapsy’s internal clinical supervision, a standing group where therapists bring their most demanding cases, train together and ask for help when a situation calls for it. Every therapist in the network, Case Managers included, can turn to our Clinical Director for clinical questions and further training, and Therapsy runs regular professional training with senior therapists and external trainers. Scheduling, invoicing, payments and the rest of the paperwork are handled by Therapsy, so that his time with you stays clinical work and nothing else. On your side, the same platform gives you one place to see your sessions, invoices, payments and documents.
At Therapsy you do not have to pick your therapist from a list: you start by speaking with Dr. Francesca Boccalari, our Clinical Director, who listens to what you are going through and matches you with the therapist she believes is right for you: Ivano Calaon, or one of his colleagues. Then you have a free introductory call with that therapist, and only after that do you decide whether to start.
And if the fit turns out not to be right, you are not back at square one. Dr. Boccalari and her team find you another therapist inside Therapsy, at no cost, without you having to tell your story from the beginning. Choosing a therapist while you are struggling, in a language that is not your own, is a lot to ask of a person. That is the part we take on.
Dr. Calaon is registered with the Italian Order of Psychologists. He receives in Turin and works online with patients across Italy and abroad.
Yes, in English as well as Italian. English is one of the languages he works in clinically, so a course of therapy can run in it from the first call onwards rather than switching only when a word is missing.
Turin for in-person sessions, video for everywhere else. Distance stops being what decides: what usually settles it is whether you want a room to go to, or an hour you can take from home.
Yes, and it is an unusual specialism: sleep psychology applied to the first months with a baby. Infant sleep is treated as a family matter rather than as the child\u2019s problem alone, because what exhausted parents do at three in the morning is part of the pattern that keeps everyone awake.
